In most cases, poker is played with a set of poker chips. In a game of at least seven players, the dealer must supply poker chips. The white chip is the lowest-valued chip. The poker round ends when no more players bet or when all the players have checked.

In other games, it is the responsibility of every player to place a minimum number of chips in the pot. This is called the kitty. Whenever there is more than one raise, the kitty is divided among all players. The players who stay in the game are considered active, and they are the ones to receive a share of the kitty.
